About Troy

Nashville based saxophonist, Troy Atkins, holds a Master of Music in Jazz/Commercial Performance from Towson University in Maryland, and a Bachelor of Music from East Carolina University in North Carolina.

Troy plays with Nashville-area bands such as, DeRobert and The Half-Truths, Freddie T. Holt and The After Five Tux Band, The Gripsweats, as well as AJ and The Jigawatts. He’s a former member of the award winning band, Higher Hands, and he toured with the 1960’s soul icons, The Impressions. He has also appeared as special guest soloist for jazz and pop artists in the DC/MD/VA region. He released the funk/soul/fusion album, Stay Sharp with Higher Hands in 2012, and the improvisational album, Revelation, with Cory Ponder and Michael Tebrinke in 2021.

Whether it be performing, teaching, or having a casual conversation about music, Troy delivers his message with a deep sincerity—music is his way of life.
